Are you looking for a better transfection reagent? Clontech has the answer: more than 2,300 polymers were tested to bring you Xfect, the first in a new generation of transfection reagents from Clontech. This novel transfection reagent creates biodegradable nanoparticles that provide superior transfection results in a wide variety of mammalian cell types.
An Innovative Transfection Reagent:
More than 2,300 candidate polymers were screened to identify novel biodegradable nanoparticles that facilitate excellent transfection efficiency. The lead compounds from this screen were then optimized to create the Xfect reagent.
High Efficiency & Low Toxicity—Suitable for Most Cell Types:
Effective, nontoxic DNA transfer is a vital first step in basic and applied research, including studies of gene regulation, protein expression, and function; the development of transgenic organisms; and therapeutic gene delivery.
When the performance of Xfect was tested against competitor reagents for several commonly used cell lines, superior transfection efficiency with Xfect was obtained in HeLa, HEK-293, CHO-K1, and HT1080 cells (Figure 1, Panel A). Xfect was also less cytotoxic, which led to higher viability in several commonly used cell lines (Fig.3;table).
Be Successful with Difficult-to-Transfect Cells:
Xfect's transfection efficiency was also tested against competitor reagents for Jurkat cells, which are notorious for their low transfection efficiency. Xfect had > 40-fold higher transfection than competitor product LX (Figure 1, Panel B).
A Simple Protocol:
For ease of use, transfections can be carried out entirely in the presence of serum. The Xfect protocol requires few steps and minimal optimization (Figure 2).
Xfect Stem:
Xfect Stem is designed to meet the specific requirements of mouse embryonic stem cell (mES) transfections.
Xfect Stem provides high efficiency (Figure 4) and high viability. In a head-to-head comparison with three other transfection reagents from leading competitors, Xfect Stem provided the best transfection efficiency in both the ES-E14TG2a and ES-D3 mES cell lines (Figures 5-6).
Transfections can be carried out entirely in the presence of serum. The Xfect Stem protocol requires few steps and minimal optimization (Figure 7).
