Alkaline Phosphatase (E. coli C75)

Takara’s Alkaline Phosphatase is derived from E.coli strain C75, which does not harbour RNase activity. The enzyme nonspecifically catalyzes the removal of most phosphomonoester bonds from the 5’ and 3’ termini of RNA and DNA. Diphosphate or triphosphate linkages will not be degraded by Alkaline Phosphatase.

Alkaline Phosphatase is extremely stable and therefore not completely heat inactivated. To remove Alkaline Phosphatase from the reaction mixture, reaction products needs to be twice purified via phenol-chloroform extraction followed by ethanol precipitation.
